Your kind of afternoon
Give your afternoon a Camden soundtrack.
Camden is the spiritual home of British music, and this self-guided walk follows the trail. It links six places where bands got signed, stages where legends crashed through and the corners where Amy Winehouse became the Queen of Camden, in an easy loop from and back to Camden Road station.
You get a short mission and a story at every stop rather than a lecture, and the PDF comes with a curated Spotify playlist so the route has a soundtrack. I keep some of the route a surprise until you are standing there.
Out on the walk
What you'll do on the walk
Look up at KOKO’s copper dome and guess who has played beneath it. Leave a nod for Amy in the middle of the market, then walk all the way round the Roundhouse, which turned steam trains long before it turned up the volume.
Fox spotting chance
Keep an eye on quiet corners and front gardens, especially towards dusk.

Curious corners along the way
A taste of your afternoon.
A glimpse of the place

KOKO
Look up at the giant copper dome of a former theatre and imagine the acts that have played under it.
A surprise stop
A red-fronted pub with a big music history. Pay your respects from the pavement and decide which band it made.
A surprise stop
The pub that was the place to be for the indie explosion of the 2000s. The roof terrace is worth finding if it is open.
Amy Winehouse Statue
Find the life-sized bronze in the heart of the market and look for the flowers fans leave with her.
A surprise stop
A venue by the canal that has hosted everyone from punk pioneers to stadium rock bands. Walk down to the water.
The Roundhouse
Walk all the way round a huge circular building that once turned steam trains. The finale of the route.
The rest stays a surprise. The guide gives you every stop, address, story, photo idea and direction, one tap at a time.

Route details, timing & access
- The walk is easy and mostly flat, but Camden is very crowded, especially at weekends and in the afternoon. Wear comfortable shoes and allow about 2 hours 45 minutes.
- The guide suggests starting around midday (12:00 to 12:30), when the pubs have just opened and the Camden Lock stalls are still trading. Try to finish before 18:00, when the market stalls start packing up.
- Venue opening times depend on the night's gigs, so check koko.co.uk and roundhouse.org.uk before you go. The pubs on the route usually open from about 12:00.
