Your kind of afternoon
Give Glasgow time to tell its stories.
This Glasgow walk takes you from the busy civic heart of the city to one of its quietest and most theatrical places. It starts at Buchanan Street Subway and follows a compact route from George Square through Merchant City, past a couple of old survivors and a famous joke, to Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis.
The route is mostly city walking, with uphill paths in the Necropolis. You get a short mission and a story at every stop, a curated Spotify playlist for the walk and a printable Walk Bingo card, all in a PDF you open on your phone or print at home.

Out on the walk
What you'll do on the walk
Circle George Square once before choosing your statue. Look above the shopfronts, where the old warehouses tell the better story. Compare the cathedral’s hush with the city outside, then climb past the first view in the Necropolis and pick your own.
Fox spotting chance
Plenty of green and quiet ground. Dusk is your best bet.

Route details, timing & access
- Take the Necropolis climb slowly and use the firmer main paths after rain. Save some energy to look back from the upper monuments before the descent.
- Shops in Merchant City are typically open from about 09:00 to 18:00, and a coffee or lunch stop fits naturally around stop 3.
- Check the cathedral and crypt opening times on historicenvironment.scot, look at glasgownecropolis.org for the Necropolis, and wear comfortable shoes for the uphill paths.
